Nightal 30, 1371 (continued) to Hammer 5, 1372

Date:

Nightal 30, 1371 (continued)

Weather:

Cloudy. Light Winds Easterly force 1, Light Snow

The Party set off for the Forge with Carandel and Therrion leading the way. By the afternoon snow starts to fall, the landscape turns quickly white and temperatures drop.

The Party finds a small hollow in the barren landscape of The High Moor and see the new year in with some of the fine fresh foods that Duke Eltan had tucked into the saddle bags of the horses before they left.

In the evening on Scaramon's watch a howling is heard in the distance, and then again on Therrion's watch.

Date:

Hammer 1, 1372

Weather:

Cloudy. Winds Northerly force 2, Light to Heavy Snow

The Party move slowly on and the weather worsens, by midday the wind has picked up and the snow is falling thicker than before. In the late afternoon the howling is heard by everyone in the Party, only this time it sounds much nearer. Carandel and Elrad feel the cold badly, (much worse than the others who are able to use personal magic to keep warm).

During the night the howling starts again this time from only a short distance outside the campsite. The Party peer out into the snowy darkness and see the faint shape of huge dire wolves circling the campsite howling. A few arrows are fired into the darkness but fail to find there mark until Scaramon casts a Dancing Lights spell on one of the beasts illuminating it brightly as a target. The Dire Wolves retreat after this unexpected bloodletting and the rest of the night passes without incident.

Date:

Hammer 2, 1372

Weather:

Cloudy. Winds Northerly force 2, Light Snow

The Party wake early and Carandel check the spot where he shot the Dire Wolf to have the satisfaction of finding blood frozen in the snow.

The Party move on taking advantage in the let up of the heavier snow and making good progress which keeps spirits up. About midday the optimistic mood is broken by the sound of Howling and a Troll baying. The party push on to ride an extra two hours before the extra strain on the horses forces them to make camp.

The Party are extra vigilant during the night and are ready, (more or less), for the expected attack when it comes in the early morning. Two Dire Wolves charge into the middle of the camp and are defeated but not before dealing out some horrific wounds to Elrad. In the midst of the battle the sound of a Troll baying or calling can be heard. However no further attacks come in the night.

Date:

Hammer 3, 1372

Weather:

Cloudy. Winds Northerly force 2, Light Snow

The situation is discussed and the Party decide that they should travel at night and so they rest until the late afternoon and move on. Their rest is utilised well by Elrad and Carandel who are feeling the effects of the very cold weather.

Date:

Hammer 4, 1372

Weather:

Cloudy. Winds Northerly force 2, Light Snow

The Party can see the edge of the Misty Forest clearly from there camp, and expect that the next nights march should take them to its comparative safety.

In the late afternoon the Party move on thankful that no strange noises on the High Moor are heard.

Cloudy. Winds Northerly force 2, Light Snow

The Party arrive at the Misty Forest two hours before daylight and find a suitable spot to camp about 50ft inside the forest. After a short debate the decide to build a fire for which Carandel and Elrad are especially thankful
